Is this the best solution?

Today, and last night, I flew out of melbourne and off to Thailand. I've spent most of the night and all of today so far in the singapore airport, floating about trying to figure out where is good to sit and what I want to do. It's always hard to focus, but after a couple of uncomfortable stints of sleep I went and got a coffee and straightened my thoughts out a little. I've done a lot of work on small. First success, I put the project itself through the small wringer. It's not as straight forward as I expected, I found the process of reflection draws out a lot of defining constraints and really considering what it is I'm doing. This is a good thing. I built a very rudimentary prototype and now I need to reflect. Is this the best solution? I use the terminal a lot, maybe a CLI is a better tool? I could then port it to web, or adapt it somehow after I've made it do what I really want and need.

I had a funny moment writing the prototype. I started doing it very clumsily, thinking something like "don't try to be fancy too soon" but almost immediately I got frustrated with the implementation. Elegance isn't only luxury, it's usability; I think this applies to code too.

I didn't manage to finish this entry before leaving for Thailand. I'm there now having a lovely time. I'll write a little more about it in another entry, but in short - got up around 9:00, got a dissapointing breakfast, reflected on the day ahead. I'd really like to set some kind of goals for the trip, though I'm not sure what. Learn more thai? I want to reflect on what I enjoyed about other trips I've been on, and what I can do here to bring that energy. Honestly, I think just waking up early and spending an hour writing and working would make a world of difference.

Thai word of the day

ขอบคุณ K̄hxbkhuṇ

"khob-khun" plus the polite male particle: ครับ - "krap"

What did I learn

Order a breakfast that is relevant to the actual country you're in. They don't know how to do normal fried eggs. You will have a better experience if you lean in to the culture. This culture comes from the land and so is adapted for it.
