butting up against a bug
3 minute read
Slept pretty badly again last night. My mind was just racing, non-stop. I was oscillating between stressing out about everything and getting excited about specific projects. After a bit of tossing and turning I got up and read for a while.
In today's entry I'll cover:
- Making a sourdough loaf
- Setting up Preact with Vite and Tailwind (faced a few hurdles)
- Starting to copy Dog ate my Homework
- Sleeplessness
- Airbnb bookings.
I've got a lot to cover, but my mind has been spinning flat out and writing it all down might help.
sourdough
I made another loaf one and put a nice design on top. The recipe only called for the four marks on the side, on a whim I decided to add the cross in the middle. Inspiration finds you baking. The dough was 50% wholemeal, 75% hydration. I mostly followed this recipe again. It took a while to rise outside, after the overnight fridge rest I put it the sun for another few hours to get a bit more volume out of it. I had the oven too hot I reckon, it could have done with slightly longer baking but the outside was getting too dark. Next time I'll try having the temp at only 200c, on fan bake.
I'd like to keep a bread diary, with hydration, flour type, steps etc.
Preact and Vite with Tailwind
In the world of build tools and dev environments something can always go wrong. I used the Preact cli to set up a project but started butting up against a bug with Nodes SSL.
I burnt it down and started again with Vite, following this comprehensive yet concise article. Big shout out to Tomoki Miyauci.
Dog ate my homework
It's good to get started. I've sketched out an order of events
- Start - empty but for "get words" button
- Get words syncs everyone up and shows words
- Then get topic, this splits up the group into those who have their homework and those who don't
- Words are selected, then the next screen shows them large (and hides the topic). Voting is enabled on this screen? I Guess?
- Then final screen reveals dogs, and votes.
I'm a little stuck now, torn around not liking the design. I always forget about how hard design is and how out of practice I am. I was watching a video about how to get better at smash-brothers recently, the instructor talked about practicing moves they way a pianist would practice scales. You don't want to be thinking about these things when you need to creative and quick. Same with
forgeting to finish the post, once again.
I got halfway through this then a friend came round and I got caught up in the day. C'est la vie!
The sleeplessness was annoying, I ended up waking up completely and doing some reading and programming at like 2:30 in the morning.
Read some more of this: The Dead Are Real, came to a good narrative realisation around one of my ambitious projects, spurred on by this quote:
There is nothing to see. There is nothing to smell. There is nothing to hear. But its motion, its insolent shift, makes my stomach heave. I can sense—at the periphery, the limit of all my senses—the dimensions of the creature. It is as high as a child of two. Its depth is a foot, fifteen inches.
Also used it to spark a return.horse comic.
