2 minute read

Yesterday was pretty good. I wrote this journal, I bought new innertubes, went grocery shopping, cooked minestrone, learnt the portuguese vocab around bicycles, and went bouldering. A full day like that is so gratifying, I'm crossing my fingers that I can continue in this stead.

routine feeling

I feel like after however many months I'm finally approaching a semblance of a routine, and understanding how to work with one. I'm better at applying myself to the task at hand, I'm better at knowing how long things will take. I'm using my watch effectively. It's still an ongoing project, and I imagine I'll have more setbacks, but it's still encouraging to recognise progress. I really thought personal routines were something you could just arbitrarily decide and enact, like cooking a new recipe. I've found that personal routines need to grow organically from seeds of regular activities that meet my needs. It comes with time and constant reflection.

Bike tricks stuff

On a similar note, I'm getting more comfortable thinking about my bike by breaking the tasks down into smaller needs. Thinking about how to 'fix it up' is overwhelming, but thinking about how un-bend the handlebars isn't too bad. I bought a puncture repair kit yesterday, having spent my final patch on a failed tube fix. The kits are $5, the tubes are $10, so I may as well try to repair tubes where I can. I have more work to do on my bike, here's a list for posterity

and some softer things

I couldn't sleep last night

I just wasn't tired, eyes wide open lying in bed. It was muggy, and I'd looked at my phone a bit before bed, and I'm sick. It can feel frustrating to have lofty dreams of an early night fail to come to fruition, but it's only one night. I ended up, after an hour, getting my laptop out and watching a video about common React Hook mistakes then tidying some code for forge.horse. I got to sleep around 1:30 I think, so not the worst outcome. Once I couldn't sleep until 6:00, I watched I don't feel at home in this world anymore thinking I was watching the first episode of a series, it's now one of my favourite movies. That was a friday night though, so it didn't matter as much.

last thing

A downside to writing shorter journal entries is it often feels half baked, I don't reach the eventually interestingthings because I spend all my time transcribing events.
