I spent the morning milling about a fair bit, showering, yoga etc. At 11:30 I had a call with a recruiter. It was good, highlighted a lot of things I hadn't thought about this far. Here's the questions we went over

• Tell me about the company.

FUTURE POSITION/COMPANY:

• What position are you looking for?
• What are you looking to do in the role?
• Do you have a preference for a particular industry, company size, or product/tech?
• Are you looking for a contract or a permanent position?
• Working from home, remote or hybrid?
• What is your salary expectation?
• Is that including super?
• Is the amount an uplift?/ Is the amount comparable to what you are currently earning?
• Would you be open to further discussions about salaries throughout this process with our team? For example potential discussions around your appetite for salary negotiations/current industry and market salary placements
• What are you after in a company, what are some must haves? EG: Flexibility

I'll be sure to add some of these to my notion board of things to consider. It's still daunting! I'm working on getting a couple of projects under my belt before I start applying again.

what projects

I rewrote the return.horse builder in go, and learnt about html templates in process. I still have a long way to go (haha) to reach competence, a lot of the most elegant, idiomatic ways of doing things are a mystery to me. To be fair, I probably don't know much more about javascript, and it wouldn't hurt to read a few more programs (100 rabbits source code is always a treat).

Once I'd finished that (it took a couple of hours) (it's not finished finished, just finished enough to move on) I did more of the docker tutorial I started the other day. I had more left to finish than I expected, but I'm finallly wrapping my head around it, and feel much more confident approaching me and T's group project.

food for thought

I made some chilli beans and tortillas for dinner, I'm worried I didn't soak the beans long enough. Just more fun for the boys downstairs.

After dinner I felt very tired, but found after an hour sitting in my room doing zine stuff my energy returned. I've found these days of long concentration tiring but very satisfying.

In the evening a spooky cloud rises

I had an idea for halloozeen: Doing a few little "scary" stories, printed at like A7 or something. In a tale older than time, this idea was not nearly so solid as it felt. My drawing vocabulary fell short, I really need a pool to dip into. Made me think perhaps getting a kids book about animals out and redrawing them all could help. Rest assured, I've settled on an actual direction and roughed out a concept layout - we're close! It's about a priest, and some other things, and I think it touches the christian-mythology genre I was hoping for. I really enjoy literature that treats christianity as a mythology to riff off, things like Hellblazer (Constantine), or The Testimony of Gideon Mack (a scottish modern classic that I read during a very weird time in my life and has always stuck with me). I talked to Giles about how I like this genre, but didn't want to make something and have it seem like I'm just a christian with bad theology. This kind of folk christianity is fun, and to paraphrase a piece from this Stuart Lee set, if a symbol goes out into the world, into new places, it can take on new shapes, shapes that the symbol creators may not recognise. Systems of belief are in and of culture, and change as culture changes. While personal faith may hold to and rely on a fairly dogmatic schema, mini comics don't.

What am I doing today?

I'll finish the docker tutorial and do some work on the asx_bets project, so that when I see T for bouldering tonight I've got something to talk about. I'll also be thinking about ways I could be more aggressive in my job hunt. I'll also get some reference images for the bee zine. My eye is twitching lately, what could this be?
