big weekend before me, big week ahead

Mostly sunny, high of 17.

Big weekend, first missed day in almost 2 weeks! Sometimes you simply can't reach your laptop with the time to write. I probably could have done it at the gallery, but I knew we had a busy day of inventory work to do.

story telling and the creation of meaning

Saturday was good, after writing the journal I did my food prep, then took the train to Preston just before 2:00. The train lines are running again, I can take my bike to Regent station then easily bike to Benjamin's place. They've finished their honours thesis, I wanted to bring some bubbles and celebrate the task. I've been party to a lot of the development, and even have the honour of suggesting one or two sources for research. It's a huge effort, and an inspiring work of reflection on their painting practice.

After that I went to Matt's for a BBQ. I enjoyed listening to triple J, and we talked about the i-ching - I'd become familiar with it through The Man in the High Castle, and was interested to hear more. While I don't hold that it exercises any true divination, I think we do plenty of unconciousness story telling about our future, and not-so-unconcious story telling about our past, and a reference with applicable and tested themes isn't such a bad idea. When I was a kid I used to try randomly opening the bible on a page to see what I got. The desire to offload decision making to external tools and "randomness" is common, and to those of us prone to overthinking, a small burden lifted.

It was nice biking around Preston too, the streets are quiet and lined with trees, it reminds me of st kilda east.

taking everything out and put it back in

The gallery was busy, not with visitors but with artists and volunteers. We have another Sunday volunteer now; I think the sunday's will get busier with 4 hands available for work. You can get plenty done with 2 people, and there's always work to do. We cataloged the contents of 2 tubs, and will eventually log everything in storage in the space. Next time I'll bring my laptop, then we can do a tub each. It was straightforward, I think I'll use the same approach for my personal inventory. A lot of time spent figuring out how to describe cables, in hindsight we should have consulted a hardware store website for the nomenclature.

afterwards

I invited a group to come join me for a drink at the bar, and they actually came out! I felt a little embarrased, I half expected no one, or only one person to show up. Only one person couldn't make it, I think they're studying pretty hard and don't have headspace for much else. Two gallery friends joined too, it felt funny to have two worlds meet. It stresses me out, I've had a bad experience before with inviting different groups together. Once bitten etc. But all went well, a few tipsy promises to chart an expedition to Preston for fried chicken were thrown out.

Big day ahead, big week

I have a lot to do, zines to create and projects to finish. Today I have portuguese class, then later I'm going to see my psychologist. It's easy to put off, if I feel like I'm doing well enough $100 is a big ask, and lord knows it's easy to delay non-urgent appointments. However, I'm clenching my jaw in my sleep, which may just be leftover from harder times, but I think my tendency to stress myself out betrays the fact that I'm not doing as well as I thought, and as the magic words lie - "perception is reality". I took a lot of notes last time I saw him, I'll consult them today in preparation.

what else?
