a little slower with more patience
2 minute read
Yesterday I:
- Finished my CV (first pass)
- Applied for 1 job
- Had a portugese lesson
- Did portuguese homework
- Went bouldering
- Looked into charts.js
- Learnt about Docker
- Explored an idea in VR about bees
- Added analytics to this journal
- Start 'Journal of a Solitude'
I noticed it's helpful to put a 25min timer on my watch just constantly, to help keep me on task or pull me back when I'm distracted. Recalling that list above I really had to concentrate to recall. Another reason I think doing more timew tracking would be helpful. I feel nervous about putting too many tags in, or getting the tags wrong, but I think that's a fake idea. It's easy to change intervals in the future, and easy to delete tags.
falando portugues
I was struggling to say "When my hair grows to about 10 centimetres it gets curly". Erico (my teacher) suggested "My curls begin when my hair is around 10cm long", explaining that portuguese puts far my emphasis on the subject of the sentence, even "personifying" with active verbs eg "my curls begin".
Os meus cachos começam quando tenho mais o menos dez centimetros de cabelo.
Virtual bees
I did a quick test of making bees and a background, then (as usual) tried to dither it. The idea is to print it on black and white on yellow paper. At first I was disheartened, but I thought about it more and I think I'm expecting too much from too little practice. If I go a little slower, and have more patience, I think I can reach a good point. The white board is calling, as well as some actual research. I need to plan my time a little for this, the fest is only 3 weeks away and I want to be printing at the start of week 3.
Analytics
I'm still tracking, will report later.
A journal of solitude
Needs it's own entry. I started reading it in breaks between climbing. I've found that a good way to both make some progress reading and also get off my phone. So far its a great read.
so much to say, so little time
I don't want to be spending 1 - 2 hrs each morning on this journal. It's not time wasted, but it's also just a lot of time out of the morning, and if this is going to be a sustainable practice I'm going to have to reduce it a little. Maybe I could have 1 or 2 big writing days a week? And save big things for those?
