glorified todo

2022-10-07

4 minute read

What a day it was yesterday! Probably the first time this week I've started to feel really good and confident in my job hunt. I did fairly little towards it, but even the smallest mustard seed etc.

To celebrate, here's a transciption of my journal (I use the 'Bullet Journal' method which, until I employ any of the more complex features, is a glorified todo list.)

x - done
• - not done

x number pages
• finish cv
    • writing x find image of me
    • design
x reply to recruiters
    x what I want
    x what I can do
    x what my availability is

x put some quotes on my wall

outstanding

All in all, a huge day, and that's not even all of it.

climb through the cave then over the lip

I finished a pumpy overhanging green climb at boulder project. The green ones have mostly easy holds, but they are often quite strength demanding, and this one especially had been getting the best of me. I tackled it early, while I still had plenty of juice in the tank. Perfect plan, executed without fault.

- but for a few moments on the plate, the mushrooms are sublime.

Talking with Tom

Got a burger with Tom, then talked about collab ideas. He knows more about implementation than I do, it's really encouraging. We settled on an idea to do with reddit, r/ASX_bets, sentiment analysis, and data-vis. I'll crack out the old Edward Tufte collections. We got a drink afterwards to talk about it, I found myself pausing a lot to think. It rained heavy, and long; I walked to the train station and took the train a little over half the way home, to keep myself getting completely saturated on my bike. Me and Tom will meet up on tuesday to do a 5 hour push on the project.

Still good

Giles shared his journal with me (will link here once I've got his permission). It's fantastic, and really encouraging. He's using an iFrame to load the content in place on the page, a great idea. It made it much easier to read through a few days. It's also great to see smaller posts; I often feel bad about writing a shorter entry, but I found the shorter entries in his journal just as insightful as the larger ones, and easier to get through.

Journal of a Solitude

I picked it up after reading a couple of good quotes in this are.na channel - inner w✺rld ↔ outer w✿rld

perhaps we write toward what we will become from where we are

we go up to heaven and down to hell a dozen times a day

Playing brogue

Giles mentioned once he was attempting to keep a diary of Brogue - I'm tempted to try too. It's very hard, but I also find it very fun. maybe I'll try to make my own rogue-like

a thought in the back of my mind

I don't think I'm very good at planning for the future, I find it impossible to concieve a place and time that is not now. But I think I've been good/lucky in the past to have cultivated relationships, skills and interests that have lead me to good places. I want to practice being more aware of this, and leaning in to this strength. Understanding what decisions can lead to good options is useful, and they're not secrets by any means.
