Resident Evil
2 minute read
I went out for a drink with Ashleigh last night and I feel really groggy today! 28 years old is beating my ass. I've got some birthday drinks for a friend tonight, will be sure to drink plenty of water in between pots of beer. Slow start to the day, didn't do yoga and slept in.
I did a good hour and a half of portuguese practice yesterday. I watched a video about how to practice listening effectively and took notes -
Then read an article about travelling in Bali and started writing my homework piece which is, no surprises, a piece about Bali.
Apples for the Pit
I did another 3 hours on the zine, it's taking longer that I expected (the usual case).
I'm doing it on the whiteboard, for now, to encourage looseness in the drawing, but today I will also try just paper too.
I've already decided, in writing that, that I don't want to do it like that. Pencil underlines will be useful for composition. I can achieve a looseness with a pen. I could even try an ink wash for grey and run the final thing through a dither. The most important thing, as before, is to draw and draw as much as I can.
The story has changed a little - it's not linear, and I'm cutting out a hole in the bottom of the zine - it will unfold open to reveal more of the scene as a whole, not discrete moments in time divided by panels. It's a host of different pigs, carrying apples of different shapes and sizes, and talking about how they're going to throw them into the pit.
I got hooked into Ronin, a common problem I have with coding tools and losing time. I was happy with the level of image retouching I managed though:
It's frustrating how long it takes me to put this together and get it out, but I guess that's the nature of practice and if you don't do it you don't get better. I've spent great chunks of time learning a lot of other things, it's easy to lose sight of that when I'm struggling to draw a bunch of cartoon pigs.
I still get a little stressy thinking about it. Not sure exactly how to get around it, but I'd like to have a full draft ready for sunday.
what else
I think it's time to wrap up for today, I'm getting distracted.

questions
- How can I put into place habits for when my normal routine falls apart?
