I'm writing this from the island of Bali.

Travel was good, Luke got us into the first class lounge in melbourne airport. They do free food and drink service, it was really nice. I think what I liked most was how quiet and slow it felt. Airports can feel busy, tense and rushed. To have a mellow space where you can relax, knowing for sure you will hear the call for you flight, is great.

I don't have a huge amount of motivation to write, but as is usually the case when this happens I'm going to write anyway.

a fool

I got nervous and mixed up the conversion system, ended up paying $40 for a pair of knock off sandles. You don't make those mistakes more than once though, and it's high time I got a little smarter with money.

I felt weird and anxious yesterday

I was attempting to put the feeling onto something but honestly I think it was just that I didn't get much sleep. It's easy to grasp at straws, attributing it to culture or experience, but really I'm more than capable and comfortable in any number of strange new places and I think many people are. Exhaustion however is not one of those places. In the future it will be good practice to question that early, take some controlled breaths and rest.

Card games

I love card games, I played Yaniv with Luke yesterday and loved it. Here's the score notation, it was a good game. The notation is a work in progress, here's they key as it stands:

y = yaniv y★ = yaniv where one player calls and another player has lower points ♕ = where a player hits 100 exactly and halves their score

    LK LG
y 0 8
y 0 20
    3 20 y
y 3 29
    10 29 y
    41 29 y
y★ 41 65
    42 65 y
    78 65 ys
y 78 81
y 78 50 ♕
y 96 50 y
♕ 50 50 y
    61 50 y
    65 50 y
y 65 58 y
y 65 70
y★ 65 106

Going forwards this notation needs to change for typing, to make it easier to type.
Use only letters for symbols too or at least only keyboard accesible symbols.

My current strategy is to amount pairs and triples, then discard them rapidly. It works okay, going by the long stretch of Yaniv I had at the end, next I'd like to keep better track of what cards the opponent is picking up.
