hungry the boy
2 minute read
Went to the opening of the show yesterday at westspace, then had some beers afterwards with people. It was nice.
after the show
Talked to someone about photography, they talked in a really flat way and I thought they were being sarcastic at first. We talked about photography, about what's nice about it, and we talked about websites. I got on my soapbox a bit, talked about getting off instagram and about how websites can be slower, how they can be or should be spaces and places.
I talked about my idea for a file directory website, where the artist lays it out in folders and then a script spins it up and publishes it. The idea is to use things artists know already and can do to provide most of the data structure decisions, making it as open and transparent as possible.
eu continuo aprendendo
Watched another video about the difference between "cada" and "todo", getting there! I think I understand it more now, and in the intuitive useful way. I also read a good little article about subjuntive modes. Another case where it would be good to read some spanish articles too. Next I need to write down what I've learnt, I will try to do that tomorrow, despite being probably fairly busy packing and getting ready.
thinking about thinking
I've been thinking about what I can benefit from most in my work processes and think one thing is getting a clear idea of what I want for a project as soon as possible, then whittling it down. It's a cliche about design, but understanding the problem really is key. Of course it's not so straightforward, learning new solutions and skills broadens my ability to understand the problem to begin with, when you've only got a hammer every problem looks like a nail. Sitting with resources often helps too - sometimes it takes a general fuzzy idea of the problem simply to get set up with a modicum of research.
Been thinking about writing ideas
- Hungry the boy
- Maybe do this in 3D, in VR, setting up a load of objects then playing with the compositions
- It would be good to do a comic this way, even if it's not for hungry the boy
- A grief that is good - a small essay on peanuts and the distillation of childhood experience or, the round headed kid has depression
- Paul Klee - Essay about separation in the evening and identifying moments in my life
- All saints all the time - a halloween exploration
- animals as functions for certain tasks, mammals for subtraction and division. A turing complete farm.
Thats it, i'm tired
no questions today, no listening suggestions. Tomorrow, they're back.
