long day good day
2 minute read
Yesterday I had a good day, it felt long.
I started the day journaling, and did some nice reading on the landing too. I'm writing todays journal on the landing too, a bit later on (9:30am). I woke up this morning after weird dreams, strange feelings of occasion all night. I did a couple of yoga with Adriene routines - the morning 10 min one and the beginner 10 min one
next to godliness
I gave my room a good tidy up, it very easily gets messy. A clear floor and tidy bed make the space feel very peaceful, I want to do this once a week, and get some more different incense so it's not just Nag Champa all the time. This took a fair bit of time out of the morning, that's okay.
climbing
I did a quick bouldering sesh, I left a little later in the day than ideal so I didn't get a full session in. I was very tired, didn't feel like I was climbing my best, but I could feel it coming around as I climbed more and I think with another half hour I could have been doing well. It's good to learn.
After Portuguese I mucked about
Having essentially finished my weaving project I've got a lot more time on my hands and in my head. I ended up haphazardly but indulgently looking up various loose ends for a couple of projects, and reading some articles I'd had open for a long time as tabs.
projects
- Conjugação - this is a webscraping based api I made to use the website conjugacao.com.br, a useful website with all portuguese verb conjugations in tables. I'd like to use this to make a web app for conjugation tables that can be exported and used for language practice.
- Inventory of my material life - I'd like to catalogue everything I own, with the intention of maybe opening things up for loans between friends but, even if that doesn't happen, itd be good to work towards minimalism. I looked into inventory apps that already exist and found that the top hits were from insurance companies helping people with their contents insurance. Broad spectrum stock taking apps were common. Apart from that I found a system for object libraries that seemed good but very very ugly.
articles
- https://www.are.na/blog/object-freedom - nice reflection and mini ontology of objects
- https://www.tcj.com/theres-no-intention-to-be-oblique-or-puzzling-a-conversation-with-richard-short/ - Richard Short does wonderful comics, and he started very late into them, and he works as a lawyer, all of which I find encouraging.
- https://maggieappleton.com/tools-for-thought - Nice approach to thinking technologies as a way to think about new "tools for thought" emerging today.
- https://ayearofconsciouspractice.com/texts/tools-for-slowing-down - Promises more than it brings, but nice to read something out of Aotearoa.
