Ending on a big note
2 minute read
Most of yesterday was lost to horrendous gut issues, brought on as punishment for enjoying too much spicy sichuan food. Today I'm writing about an exhibition opening I went to, weaving again, hugo blogging engine, and harry potter.
Did a tiny bit more weaving
Not much too add to this really. Did about 45m, I think today I'll get close to finishing it.
At least we tried
I don't know if this was the official title, but I went to and exhibition that resulted from a class on collaboration someone from my gallery ran. The exhibition was a set up with a badminton net in the middle of the room, and the classmembers all took turns palying badminton and keeping score. There was a wee bbq, and some other artworks set up around the show too. I really liked it, it was fun to see the problem solving involved for running the practical parts of event. They had a scoreboard being painted in, a dog running around, 4 rackets, a system for diving teams, someone stitched the word "Badminton" into the net. Fun all round.
Hugo
Hugo is a static site builder. I tried spinning up a hugo site for this journal, it was okay but I've decided I'm still better just rolling my own I think as all I need to do is parse each md file in place and make a home page, then it's done. I feel a little weird, like I'm always avoiding learning to use any of these bigger frameworks or tools, but also I just don't think my content needs it.
I'm a what
Went to see the H*rry Potter stage show (got free tickets). As everyone said, the special effects were fun.
what else
I'm halfway through the 4th week of my break. Feeling weird about it, I've struggled to achieve a few of the goals I set so far - specifically sleep goals. It is really hard to go to bed a reasonable hour. My wacky scheme to help this is to implement something I tried in the past: No screens after 9:30. This means I can still stay awake, but I have to do things like read, draw or weave. Any queries I have that I want to research can be written down (night time internet) and searched the next day. Apart from the sleep stuff I'm pretty happy with the break, it hasn't been perfect but I've been having a fun time and doing a load of things I am happy with. Plenty more to do, plenty more opportunities to have fun.
One of my armpits smells really bad, I'm gonna crack out the anti fungal cream and stay home for a few days
